Description
Get hands-on experience in green-collar service! Help promote and implement solutions for sustainable energy consumption in Butte, Anaconda and surrounding Montana communities. The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is currently seeking two AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve in our Butte, Montana office to increase awareness of the energy needs of low-income people and engage community members to help meet those needs. VISTA members will reach out to the local community, providing help to the people who need it most. Members will research existing energy advocacy programs, assess community energy needs, and help to identify sources of funding to develop strategic community energy plans.  VISTA members will also help to build NCAT’s capacity and lay the groundwork for upcoming projects that effectively help promote and provide for sustainable energy consumption. The VISTA project will launch members into green-collar career pathways, providing them with the essential elements for good and secure jobs in the growing clean energy economy. 

Qualifications:

·         Desire to be a part of an established National Service program;

·         Computer skills and knowledge of some software (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.);

·         Ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally);

·         Willingness to learn and flexibility in working with diverse community partners;

·         Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;

·         Bachelor's degree preferred;

·         Excellent dependability and follow through;

·         Participants may not be enrolled students (*unless in the VISTA Alive Program,

AmeriCorps*VISTA Service for credit);

·         Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed;

·         Must be available to travel to statewide trainings and events.

 Benefits: The VISTA members will serve full-time for one year in historic Butte, Montana and surrounding scenic areas and will receive the following benefits:

  • Graduate credit through the University of Montana ALIVE Program* (*initiated by member);
  • Training and professional development;
  • Living Allowance of $9996 per year (approximately $833* per month, *before taxes);
  • Cash stipend of $1200 upon successful completion of service or
  • An AmeriCorps Education Award ($4725)
  • Health Insurance;
  • Child Care (if eligibility requirements are met);
  • Relocation Allowance (up to $550 for eligible members) and mileage –or airfare- from member’s home of record.
