Job Purpose/Overview

The Airspace Efficiency Advisor is responsible for supporting and identifying improvements to airspace efficiency to help NATS and the wider aviation industry in its decarbonisation pathway. The role involves using data-led approaches to review performance and working with colleagues across NATS identify improvements to aircraft trajectories, emissions and the environment. Working with the Sustainable Operations leads, the post holder will provide analysis, reporting and improvement initi atives to create a positive change to NATS’ sustainability performance.

Other duties include:

  1. Reviewing performance to identify trends and opportunities to improve NATS airspace sustainability performance.
  2. Working closely with our Analytics function to improve dashboards and the flow, regularity and relevance of sustainability data to our Operational teams.
  3. Support in developing the department’s communications strategy and content to help deliver NATS airspace net zero and broader environmental programme.
  4. Gather data insights and develop reports to key stakeholders and input into annual reporting.
  5. Help develop improvement activities to realise environmental opportunities, including outreach campaigns to engage employees.
  6. Prepare sustainability data for Operations review meetings; including slide-packs, briefing notes and training materials.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of UK airspace is highly desirable.
  • Experience of air traffic control, or aircraft/airline performance is highly desirable.
  • A qualification in an environmental or sustainability discipline, such as noise, emissions or climate chemistry is preferable but not necessary.
  • Experience of environmental matters in relation to aviation environmental issues.
  • Highly numerate with an ability to identify trends in data to drive actionable sustainability outcomes.
  • Good interpersonal, facilitation, communication and team working skills which enable trust and motivate progress.
  • Ability to support the implementation of environmental policies and strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and synthesise complex and conflicting requirements quickly, think creatively.
  • Finely tuned attention to detail.
