Description

We are seeking an exceptional individual to help manage the team responsible for tackling air pollution and decarbonising transport in the capital.

Reporting to the Head of Air Quality, you will manage a team of five professional experts, helping deliver world-leading schemes like the Ultra Low Emission Zone, planning the electric vehicle charging infrastructure London will need for the future, and supporting Transport for London’s efforts to deliver zero emission bus and taxi fleets. Your portfolio will also include a range of projects being delivered by the GLA such as the Breathe London monitoring network and evaluation of programmes like School Streets.

Excellent organisational, research and problem-solving and delivery skills will be crucial to your success. You’ll need a demonstrable flair for communicating and influencing as well as building strong relationships with key stakeholders at a senior level.

The role requires a flexible, adaptable and collaborative approach, and will involve working on many initiatives simultaneously, in a fast paced and political environment.

The ability to interpret, analyse and present data and technical information would be an advantage, as would experience in air quality, climate change or a related field. However, strong applicants who can demonstrate that they have transferable skills and the ability to learn and adapt quickly will also be considered.

The Air Quality team is based within the GLA Environment and Energy Unit which is responsible for the delivery of the Mayor’s environment vision including for London to be Net Zero by 2030. This is a rare opportunity to work with colleagues who are committed to making a difference to the lives of Londoners and future generations.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available.  Over the coming weeks and months, we will be moving to hybrid working as part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

If you have a question about the role, please contact Elliot Treharne Elliot.Treharne@london.gov.uk or the recruitment process then please contact a member of the recruitment team via email on glarecruitment@engageats.co.uk quoting reference GLA4868.
