This project educates consumers, producers, and workers about the dangers inherent in the current models used by the agricultural industry throughout the Americas. It works with existing institutions to create alternative means of production and compensation that are better for the environmental, physical, and financial health of everyone affected by the current mode of production. There are a number of different volunteer opportunities available such as: community education (teaching of technical skills and technology); environmental education (giving the community workshops on environmental conservation, etc); teaching English; human rights (assisting the community in the area of human rights); public health (working directly with the community on the subjects of basic and specialized health care, in addition to the promotion of health education and the prevention of illness); and sustainable organic agriculture (the installation of a community vegetable garden).
There is no cost to participate but volunteers contribute towards accommodation. A stay at the volunteer house costs £21 per week for a dorm bed or £30 a week for a private room. This does not include food but volunteers have access to a kitchen. A homestay with a local family costs £30 per week without meals or £36 per week with meals. Individual Spanish classes cost US$5 per hour.
