Advisor (m/f) Transport and Climate ChangeJOB-ID: 16605 Field of activityThe transport sector contributes the second highest share of all sectors to energy related greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Until 2050 emissions from transport will more than double. The vast majority of this growth will occur in the developing world. Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) are a new instrument to support developing countries in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Project “Towards Climate-Friendly Transportation Technologies and Activities” (TRANSfer) is funded by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment (BMU) and supports decision makers in developing countries in the preparation and implementation of transport NAMAs. At national level, the project currently cooperates closely with South Africa, Colombia and Indonesia (two further countries will be selected soon). At international level, using expert workshops, trainings, seminars and study tours the project stimulates the learning process around transport NAMAs and the discussion around the future of NAMAs. Recently, for example, an expert group on monitoring greenhouse gas reductions and further sustainable development impacts was established. The project team consists of professionals with different academic backgrounds based in Germany as well as in the partner countries. Networking activities, participation in international partnerships and cooperation with national governments and international organizations is part of everyday work. As part of the GIZ Competence Center for Transport the team is cooperating closely with several GIZ projects on transport and climate change around the world, amongst them are projects in China, the ASEAN region, Mexico and Costa Rica.
Your tasksThe position is based in Eschborn, Germany, and focusses on the cooperation with Latin American countries on transport NAMAs. This includes the identification of sustainable transport policies and measures, the development of concepts to measure mitigation and sustainable development impacts (MRV) as well as setting up financial mechanisms and institutional arrangements for the implementation of NAMAs.
The main areas of work is a mix of policy advice and technical assistance to our governmental partners and further partner organizations in the respective countries, dissemination of international experiences on NAMAs and capacity development of different stakeholders.
Specific tasks include as well development of tools and products for publication, communication with partner organizations mainly but not limited to Latin America, active contribution to international partnerships, mobilization and coordination of consultants, organization and realization of workshops and international events (e.g. expert workshops, side-events, participation at conferences), conduction and realization of study tours. In addition to this you make a relevant contribution to quality and knowledge management. Your profileYou have a degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Engineering, Economics, Urban/Regional Planning or related area and not less than three, but preferably five or seven years of relevant professional experience in transport policy or transport economy as well as climate change / mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
Your professional experience covers consulting as well as project management in an international context, preferably in development cooperation. Your communication skills are excellent and you have proven capacity to present contents and messages at international events. You are encouraged in the creation and maintenance of networks between different actors. You are able to focus on the essentials and to use your organization and management talents in a target oriented manner. Your oral and written language skills in German, English, and Spanish are fluent. Assignment periodas soon as possible - 31.12.2016
