Description

The Lead Fisheries Specialist will lead the Sustainable Development Network (SDN) Fisheries Team with assistance from other senior staff in the group and take leadership responsibility for the following activities.  
1. Provide advice on the implementation of the World Bank’s fisheries activities, including interpretation of the various World Bank Operational Policies of relevance to fisheries.  
2. Lead, oversee and promote the World Bank’s fisheries partnerships, including the Program on Sustainable Fisheries (PROFISH) and the Alliance for Responsible Fisheries (ALLFISH). 
3. Represent the World Bank at international fisheries and oceans meetings, including meetings of FAO, UN Law of the Sea and OECD Committee on Fisheries.
4. Liaise and coordinate with relevant groups within the SDN Vice Presidency, in particular within the teams dealing with biodiversity, coral reefs and with climate change; with teams responsible for social development and poverty; with teams with coastal and marine infrastructure; and teams dealing with policy and environmental economics.  
5. Liaise and coordinate with relevant World Bank groups outside the SDN Vice Presidency, in particular to provide support to the Regional Vice Presidential units in the preparation of projects and in relation to teams responsible for governance, anti-corruption and climate change and with other Bank institutions, including IFC, IMF, WBI and WRI.
6. Contribute to relevant Bank strategies and actions plans and prepare briefings for and responses to queries from senior Bank management  to ensure integration of the fisheries and aquaculture issues and associated programs into broader land, water and natural resource management programs and the rural and environmental management strategies.  
7. Provide intellectual leadership and input into the economic and development aspects, as well as the ecological, conservation, industry, and management aspects of fisheries-related analytical work (ESW/ AAA). This would include studies on methodologies to ensure due diligence on social change resulting from fisheries reforms, on governance and institutional reform, as well as on investment and policy based lending activities for fisheries and fisheries-dependent people.  
8. Take overall responsibility for the development of global goods in fisheries and aquaculture.
9. Providing targeted support to operations  where there are significant opportunities to accelerate progress towards fisheries strategy objectives or enhance World Bank wide learning.
