The European Forest Institute (EFI) is an international organisation established by European States. The EFIMED – Mediterranean Regional Office of EFI - aims to coordinate and promote research and networking on Mediterranean forests, forestry and forest products.

EFIMED promotes and conducts research, policy advice and networking activities as well as capacity building on key scientific priorities within the scope of the Mediterranean Forest Research Agenda (MFRA).

Tasks and responsibilities

The role of the Administrative and Communciations Officer is versatile in providing support and coordination in both administration and communications. The duties include general administration tasks, events organisation, communications and networking activities. TheOfficer will work closely with the Head of EFIMED, his Deputy and the Office Manager.

  • Administration
    • general administration tasks, including payment of invoices
    • assisting in travel arrangements
  • Communications and networking
    • web-editing, especially maintenance and updates to the EFIMED website
    • wissemination activities, e.g. editing the EFIMED Newsletter and writing press releases
    • editing of various publications and proposals produced by the Regional Office.
    • maintain the networking and public relations activities
    • organisation of events
    • managing various capacity building activities such as summer schools and grant application processes

The communications activities are conducted in close co-operation with the EFI Headquarters.

Qualifications

  • BSc or higher university degree in business administration, communication or in forestry/environmental sciences.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in administration, organisation of events and communication activities.
  • Knowledge and experience in web-editing.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, including good writing and reporting skills.
  • Excellent written and oral English and Spanish skills. Good knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Experience in project administration, editing skills and previous experience of editorial work/communications. A knowledge of the forest sector and of forest science are an asset.

Duty station

The Administrative and Communications Officer will be based at the premises of the European Forest Institute Mediterranean Regional Office and Policy Advice Office in Barcelona, Spain. 

Employment conditions

The Administrative and Communications Officer will be an EFI staff member. The working language of the Institute is English. The duration of employment is one year as a part-time position with the possibility of renewal or change to a full-time position based on the performance of the employee. The position is expected to start in April/May 2012.
