Description

Coordinate and execute innovative, creative, confrontational and inspirational non-violent direct actions. Guide direct communications, protests and other campaign and logistical activities, in a limited extend, as directed by the Action Unit manager.

Contribute to the development of the strategic and tactical capabilities of the Actions and Research Unit in order to achieve the annual programme.

Further Greenpeace India’s campaign objectives through ongoing strategic planning with Greenpeace Campaigners.

 

What will you be doing?

-  Develop and lead the implementation of direct action related strategies central to campaign objectives, in conjunction with the campaign teams, under the directions of the action manager.

-  Lead the design and implementation of Direct Action tactics that contribute to changing public, Government and Corporate behaviour in line with the Campaigns objectives.

-  Undertake research and investigations for campaign projects as directed by the Actions Unit Manager.

-  Plan logistics, prepare, coordinate and implement of Direct Actions, direct communications, environmental protests, investigations.

-  Ensure that health and safety procedures are strictly adhered to by all personnel in direct actions and all other Action Unit activities.

-  Participate in the development and running of NVDA and specialised training’s for staff, local groups and volunteer activists.

-  Represent Greenpeace in public activities, the media and with other NGOs on direct action and campaign issues as directed by the Actions Unit Manager

-  Manage Project budgets and expenditure as directed by the Actions Unit Manager.

-  Contribute to the planning and development of the Action Unit, including ODP, annual budget.

 

What you need for this position?

  • Understanding of non violent direct action campaigning within Greenpeace or a similar organisation
  • Understanding of how direct actions are researched, planned and executed
  • Specific expertise in one or more of the following and ability to become expert in one other of the following: Inflatable boat driving, Navigation, Climbing, Welding, Woodworking, Truck driving, Photography/Video, Engine maintenance, Outboard maintenance, Caving, Diving...
  • Proven ability to innovate in relation to direct actions strategy and tactical work
  • Some knowledge of Health and Safety and legal considerations in supporting actions work
  • Willingness to court arrest to meet campaign demands
  • A full, clean driving licence

Details about the job

Reports to : Actions Manager

Grade:       D

COMPENSATION: Pay Rs. 404,844 per annum (cost to organization) (see conditions of employment)

 

Working environment: The candidate might be required to travel frequently and in some cases stay in places other than the city in which the HO is located for long periods of time. The candidate might have to work under very basic conditions in some places of travel. S/he might also be required to work unsocial hours from time to time.
