The Finance Assistant will be responsible to the Management Accountant foe entering financial transactions to CAT’s computerized accounting system, and will assist as required with other aspects of CAT’s accounting and financial systems. Attention to detail, the ability to prioritise work, and a proactive approach will all be essential.
Responsibilities:To maintain the purchase ledger, the computerised cash book, check control accounts and distribute incoming and outgoing departmental post.Maintain the computerized cash book:·Code and enter receipts/payments as necessary. Check statements are correct to system. Make any corrections so the cashbook reflects the true cash available.·Enter the trade reconciliation forms onto spreadsheets of cash sales.Expenditure·Maintain the purchase order system·Match invoices and delivery notes to purchase orders·Input purchase orders onto system and keep records of all invoices sent out to departments for authorization·Complete supplier payment runs on a fortnightly basis·Reconcile supplier statements to purchase ledger – and progress any invoices not received·Ensure the timely preparation of cheques and other payments for purchase ledger payments and payment requestsIncome·Keep spreadsheet of weekly cheques and send (recorded) to Triodos and update ledgerOther finance department responsibilities·Collect and distribute departmental post and deliver outgoing post·Other work as requested from time to time by line manager, departmental colleagues, Budget or Management GroupsAll Permanent Staff – Co-operative Duties·To attend a minimum of 6 monthly staff meetings per year (or such other number as may be agreed with the Management Group).·To consider issues presented to the staff body and be involved in the consensus decision-making process regarding such issues.·To input to policy development when policies are proposed by the Directions Team·To input to the strategy process when requested by the Directions Team.·To comply all CAT’s policies and processes as they are amended from time to time. A thorough, practical understanding of accounting principles and techniques
Experience of bookkeeping and accounting
Computer literate, preferably with experience of accounting software
Experience of providing accurate and timely information to a high standard
High level of numeracy
Good level of literacy
Good interpersonal and communication skills, particularly attuned to working well with non-finance staff
Good team worker
Honest, trustworthy and reliable
Well organised - able to prioritise and manage own workload
Ability to work in a co-operative structure

AAT qualified (or working towards)
