Description

Ofwat is the economic regulator of the water and waste water sectors in England and Wales and operates in a complex political and business/water industry environment. Government is currently completing a review of Ofwat, and Ofwat is also carrying out its own review of how it carries out its functions. Implementing change to reflect the outcomes of these reviews will be a key challenge for the organisation. This is balanced with the ongoing requirement to deliver economically sustainable services, secure ongoing investment and maintain Ofwat’s political and industry profile.  The Ofwat Board is currently made up of a Chair, five Non-Executive Directors and three Executive Directors, including the Chief Executive. The terms of appointment for the current Chair and three Non-Executive Directors will expire in Autumn/ Winter 2011.

The role of the Non-Executive members of the Board is both to support and guide the Executive team but also to act as its first line of accountability, appraising performance, challenging approaches and judgements and scrutinising delivery.  Strong leadership skills and relevant senior experience gained in a significant public or private sector organisation is essential.  Candidates should have experience in an area relevant to Ofwat’s needs, for example in economic regulation, consumer driven industry or the environment.  These appointments will be for two days per month (subject to review) for a term of three years, with the option of a two year extension and further term subject to suitable performance reports.

Non Executive Directors will recieve £10,680 for two days a month (subject to review)

The closing date for recieving applications is 5pm Friday 6th May 2011.

Please note that this appointment is being managed by GatenbySanderson on behalf of Defra.
