Description

The Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) is a Committee of Experts of Defra established in 2011. Its role, broadly speaking, is to advise the Chief Executives of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on formulating residues surveillance programmes and on the significance of the results in terms of consumer safety.

We need to appoint three new members for terms of office expiring in December 2014.

The Lead Defra Minister, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food, will:
• set terms of reference for the Committee;
• agree strategic work plans, receive reports and advice;
• receive periodic reviews of the Committee’s functions and value for money;
• consult the Devolved Administrations and other Departments as appropriate about the Committee and its work.

Remuneration at the rate of £148 for each meeting attended is payable together with an additional £38 for preparation time spent reading the papers prior to a meeting. Travel and expenses will also be paid.

Defra is committed to improving the diversity of its public bodies and welcomes applications irrespective of race, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age or gender re-assignment.

We particularly welcome interest from under-represented groups, including individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic communities; and disabled people – for whom we offer an interview access scheme.
