The Grand Traverse Conservation District (GTCD) uses conservation and education to achieve its mission of
“inspiring exploration, appreciation, and conservation of our natural world.”  From helping children and
families connect with nature at the Boardman River Nature Center to improving parklands to combating
invasive species to restoring the Boardman River to helping protect the quality of water in Northern Michigan
the GTCD is active in the community promoting environmental stewardship in exciting ways.  This summer,
you can ‘answer the call’ and become a part of the Conservation team!   
Requirements: College juniors or seniors majoring in a natural resource-related field. Recent college
graduates seeking more experience will also be considered. Must have own transportation and housing.
Preference will be given to those individuals whose curriculum requires they have an internship for graduation.
The intern typically begins working in mid-May and finishes in mid-August. Hours will be Monday through
Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Responsibilities: The Conservation Intern will assist the Conservation Team in developing, coordinating, and
implementing its’ work plan, including trail maintenance, hands-on construction projects, invasive species
removal, river restoration projects, and promotional events. The intern will also have the opportunity to lead
trail hikes throughout the 3,000+ acres of parkland we manage. The ability to work with little supervision,
construction or outdoor maintenance experience, and good writing/communication skills are beneficial. Note:
In this position you will come in contact and may work with a prison labor crew.
Compensation:  $10.00 per hour for up to 480 hours of employment over the summer.
