Description

Spend your summer working with professionals on sustainable agriculture projects. Learn new skills and put your college education to work! The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is looking for a qualified student to work in our Shavertown, PA office located on the historic Lands at Hillside Farms. This is a great opportunity for the right student to work with a national organization on local projects. This short-term internship could possibly be extended to a year if funding allows.

Opportunities:

  • The intern will work with an NCAT supervisor and program specialists to research sustainable agriculture, local food systems, and farm energy for development of technical publications.
  • The intern will gain hands-on experience working with local urban farmers to produce profitable, locally grown vegetables for marketing to a local institution.
  • The intern may work on website information for national distribution.
  • NCAT will work with the intern to develop a work plan that will meet their needs for gaining work experience and academic credit if needed.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have good communication skills, an interest or background in agriculture and local food systems, an active and curious mind, and a high level of computer skills. Website development skills are preferred. A high school diploma is required. On-farm experience would be useful but is not required. Applicants with background in farming who are not currently enrolled in school may also be considered.

Compensation:

$8.50 to $10.50 per hour depending on experience.

Deadline for Applications:

May 31, 2009 or until a suitable candidate is selected. Early applications are encouraged.
