For the research group “Data-based analysis of climate decisions” at the Department of Complexity Science PIK is offering

2 PhD Positions (m/f/d)

in the field of Economic Impacts of Climate Change, starting on 01.10.2019.

(Position number: RD 4-PhD Position-18-2019)

The positions are funded for 3 years. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. These are part-time positions with a weekly working time of 26 hours per week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Investigate how future weather extremes may impact the global economy by use of different mathematical methods and modeling approaches
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary and international  research project (with the possibility of a research stay abroad)
  • Publish your results in academic journals and present them at conferences

Requirements:

  • a degree in mathematics, physics, economics or a related subject
  • experience with statistics, econometrics and/or machine learning are a plus
  • experience with numerical modeling is a plus
  • programming skills are a plus (e.g. Python, R or C++)
  • understanding of core climate science topics
