Description

Policy Advisor
Job No.: 494515
Department: Corporate
Work type: Perm - Full Time
Location: Victoria, London

Salary: Competitive plus excellent benefits

We are currently recruiting for a Policy Advisor to work on our Policy and Research team based in London. Our Policy team engages with government and other key stakeholders on energy policy and helps to ensure the implications of policy changes are fully understood by the business. It also undertakes tailored research into key future challenges for the company.

This role will focus primarily on demand side policy - particularly Green Deal and ECO - but will overlap into other areas. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a major energy company and understand how the company interfaces with policy.

Based in Victoria and reporting to the Policy Manager, you will support the work of the policy team through proactive and reactive policy analysis and development and coordinating and providing strategic advice on policy responses to government and other external stakeholders. You will gather and analyse up to date information on political, governmental and key influencer activities and policy decisions and provide policy and strategy support and advice to different parts of the SSE business where appropriate.
Developing and managing relationships with key policy influencers, and building coalitions, in order to support the policy development process is a key aspect of the role. You will be representing SSE at stakeholder events and meetings so excellent communication skills are essential as well as the ability to understand and communicate complex policy ideas and concepts.

With a 2:1 degree, and preferably a relevant MSc, you will have an understanding of the energy sector through relevant work experience and/or qualifications. You must show an awareness of recent policy developments in the sector, particularly the Green Deal and ECO process.

The successful candidate will be subject to the Company's verification and vetting process. This includes a basic criminal record check.
