Senior Programme Officer (12 month fixed term contract)
Ecosystem Assessment Programme
Salary Band C £31,657 – £45,224

WCMC is a UK charity, based in Cambridge, which supports the United Nations Environment Programme. We work in collaboration with UNEP, under the banner of UNEP-WCMC. Our mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since our establishment in the 1970s, the Centre has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement.

WCMC are now seeking a Senior Programme Officer to work with us on a 12 month fixed term contract basis, which will be open to further potential extension.
 

 

The role

This role will play a leading role in the expansion and delivery of UNEP-WCMC’s work to provide authoritative information about biodiversity and ecosystem services in a manner that is useful to decision makers who are driving change in environment and development policy. Working primarily in support of national governments and inter-governmental processes and with a wide network of international partners, you will oversee a portfolio of projects at the science-policy interface.

 

Key responsibilities

As Senior Programme Officer, you will take a leading role in developing, resourcing and delivering a portfolio of projects focussing on increasing the understanding of decision-makers regarding biodiversity and its many values, together with the linkages between biodiversity, ecosystem services sustainable land management and human well-being / livelihoods, in order to mainstream biodiversity into development policy and developing countries.

 

The candidate

You will hold a Higher Degree in natural or social sciences and a Phd in an interdisciplinary, biodiversity related field is desired. You will have a proven track record of development, management and delivery of complex, interdisciplinary projects involving a range of partners and will have extensive relevant experience and exposure at international level, including experience with Multilateral Environmental Agreements, or other relevant national or international policy processes. Furthermore, you will have an understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
