Project Officer (Trees Outside Woodlands)

Temporary Contract until October 2024

£30,151 to £32,020 per annum (Scale H)

37 hours per week

Do you have a keen interest in trees and wildlife and want to be part of new research in the sector? If so, an opportunity has arisen at Norfolk County Council for a Project Officer, working on the “Trees Outside Woodlands” Project. The funding for this post is from HM Treasury’s Shared Outcomes Fund, and you will work in collaboration with Defra, Natural England, The Tree Council and four other local authorities.

You will be delivering the fund’s research pilot projects. These projects will include planting trees on farms; planting Miyawaki mini forests in urban settings; supporting local stakeholders for targeted planting allowing landscape recovery and connectivity; and leading the Community Tree Nurseries (CTN)pilot aiming to improve biosecurity and the sustainability of the CTNs, which includes leading NCC’s very own CTN at Gressenhall Museum.

The role involves working with local stakeholders, such as community groups, schools, landowners, businesses and tree wardens; our national partners, the Tree Council, Natural England, and Defra, as well as our partner local authorities.

You should have a degree or equivalent in a relevant environmental field (e.g. Environment, Ecology, Arboriculture) and experience of managing projects involving trees, landscape or wildlife. Experience in growing and / or horticulture would be an advantage.

This is a full-time post, providing temporary maternity cover for up to one year from October 2023. You will be working in the Council’s small but dynamic Tree Projects team.
