The Manager, Social Accountability will support the Social Practice Group (SPG) of the Social Policy and Practice (SPP) Department at Conservation International (CI). SPP sits within the Social and Environmental Governance Unit of the Center for Environment and Peace (CEP). The Social Practice Group includes the Stakeholder Engagement and Learning Program and the Indigenous and Traditional Peoples Program.. The Social Practice Group develops and tests innovative tools, methodologies and training products to support CI’s Divisions and Country Programs The team works in collaboration with CI’s Programs and partners across regions to pilot new methods and tools to capture learning and experience that will influence policy and decision-making at the global level. The Social Practice Group serves as the bridge that links Social Policy and Social Practice to promote Social Accountability within all of CI’s work. The primary duties of the position include supporting the design and development of tools and methodologies to strengthen CI’s approach to Stakeholder Engagement across programs and projects and the application of a Rights-based Approach to conservation, which promotes the integration of human rights in conservation policy and practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Accountability:
Work closely with the Director for Social Practice and Accountability to develop protocols and methods to measure, monitor, evaluate and report on the performance, results and impacts of institutional stakeholder engagement programs and activities.
Shared Learning:
Working closely with the Social Practice team and country program staff to manage the development and implementation of Institutional learning tools and programs to enhance understanding and implementation of stakeholder engagement and other social issues.
Other Responsibilities as required. These may include:
Contribute to the development of fundraising proposals related to capacity building, stakeholder engagement and social accountability.
Contribute to developing donor reports, fact sheets and other information products about the Social Practice Group and SPP activities.
Working Conditions:
This position is based in CI Headquarters in Arlington, VA
Up to 25% international and domestic travel.
Travel to remote areas without modern conveniences may be required.
This is a fixed-term position through 6/30/2014.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Bachelors Degree in social sciences, environmental education, or rural development.
3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Proven experience in developing and implementing programs related to stakeholder engagement.
Skills and knowledge on methods for assessing and evaluating social impacts.
Proven experience designing and implementing statistical methods for social sciences.
Experience engaging and communicating to multiple audiences.
Understanding of conservation issues related to ecosystem health
Understanding of and demonstrated skills in intercultural communication.
Working familiarity with all Microsoft Office Programs
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to break down complex technical information into simple language
