WWF-India, one of the largest conservation organizations, engaged in wildlife and nature conservation in the country, invites applications from candidates with an inherent sensitivity towards the conservation of nature and environment, to work as the ‘Manager – Communications’ for its flagship programme on Species & Landscapes Conservation. The programme works towards the conservation of threatened species like the tiger, elephant, rhino, snow leopard, red panda and several others in ten landscapes spread across the length and breadth of the country, from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala, and from Rajasthan to Arunachal Pradesh.
The incumbent shall be responsible for developing and leading the implementation of all of the Species & Landscapes programme’s communication strategy, including stakeholder, public and media relations activities, events, focused campaigns and preparing policy advocacy documents.
The incumbent shall also supervise the communications staff in the Species & Landscapes programme and will also be required to coordinate on communications tasks with the teams in the landscapes, field and Secretariat.
Location: New Delhi, with frequent travel within the WWF-India landscapes, as well as some international travel.
The Job Profile:
- Design and implement pro-active and innovative approaches to conservation using new media and keeping in mind changing mindsets of conservation stakeholders.
- Ensure that annually significant programmatic outcomes are picked up by our partners including but not restricted to media, network and social networking sites.
- Pro-actively engage with the landscape teams, pull out project updates, conservation successes and important achievements and inform the WWF network, external partners and stakeholders and media on a regular basis and ensure the most effective and consistent message is delivered to stakeholders and end users.
- Motivate the field team to contribute action photos from the landscapes that best describe our work and then establish a photo stock of the Species & Landscapes programme. This includes sourcing images from within and outside the organization as well as image storage and access.
- Assist in improving content and design of the web content of SP&LS programme on the WWF India website and ensure regular updating.
- Help in design, production and sourcing footage as well as copyright issues for small videos of the programmes based on conservation achievements.
- Assist in specific targeted campaigns on conservation of tiger/ elephant/ rhino/ snow leopard/ red panda.
- Assist the landscapes field teams in bringing out technical reports and communications material on a regular basis including developing lobbying documents based on such technical reports.
- Ensure budget allocation for communications as per the approved strategy, and provide administrative advice and support to the team.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:
- Masters or equivalent degree in Journalism or English.
- At least seven years of post education work experience in the relevant area with a strong understanding of wildlife conservation issues in India and the region.
- Dynamic communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills; both English and Hindi.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Existing networks with the civil society and government partners in the country for wildlife conservation.
- High level of interpersonal skills required, especially relationship management and consensus building skills and the ability to work as part of a high-level international team.
