 Licence Administrator

Based at Wallingford, Oxfordshire

The Research Contracts & Licensing Team sits within the Research & Innovation Services Section based at its Wallingford site. The Team provides a data licensing service, both in and out of the organisation supporting CEH’s Science Areas, wider academic research and commercial exploitation. Dealing with in excess of 700 enquiries a year, the Team also manages a growing roster of licence agreements, from receipt of initial enquiry, through drafting and issuing of licences, receipt of income, calculating CEH’s royalty obligations and on to licence renewal.   

Main duties

  • Taking, progressing and monitoring orders.
  • Preparing estimates and quotations for customers.
  • Drawing up standard contracts and negotiating around standard terms.
  • Working with the Environmental Information Data Centre and the Informatics Liaison Network to provide data to customers.
  • Processing invoices.
  • Maintaining customer and licensing records.
  • Working with the Finance team to deliver monthly and quarterly income statements.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate payments of royalties. 
  • Supporting the three other members of the Team as necessary in negotiations with data suppliers and customers.

Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Excellent level of numerical ability and computer skills, including the use of Excel for the presentation of financial returns.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to work independently and manage own time.
  • The ability to maintain office systems for managing data licensing activities, including agreement renewal.
  • Experience within a licensing or contracts environment, to include a working knowledge of contract & copyright law, would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of data licensing would be helpful.
