1. Job description

The Primate Research Institute in collaboration with the Wildlife Research Center and the Graduate School of Science of the Kyoto University invites applications from Non-Japanese applicants for a full or associate professor position in CICASP to join the "International Course in Primatolgy and Wildlife Research", a newly established course. Kyoto University is one of the top universities in Japan. For more information, please view the following website http://www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en. The Primate Research Institute is one of the 13 Research Institutes of Kyoto University, and is an international center for primatology. For further information, please visit: http://www.pri.kyoto-u.ac.jp. The International Course in Primatology and Wildlife Research will be targeted at Ph.D. and Master's program students of the Graduate School of Science, and is mainly for foreign students. The course's language will be in English, i.e. all classes and research work will be carried out in English. The applicants must have a Ph.D. degree, a strong research background and a commitment to teaching excellence, and an outstanding research record in primatology in any domain of the discipline. The successful candidate should be able to teach a masters course in "Topics in primatology". The contract term is from its start until March 31st , 2014. The starting date of the position is April 1st, 2010 or a date to be agreed upon. The position is not permanent. We will consider candidates who wish to stay for shorter periods. However, at least 1 full year is required. Should the teaching record and/or research achievements of the candidate be insufficient for hiring as a Full professor, the candidate will be hired as an Associate professor. We do not have a special preference: we will consider candidates for either position. Knowledge of Japanese is not required but fluency in English is essential.

(2) Curriculum vitae
(3) List of academic publications (Indicate 5 major publications and a copy of each)
(4) List of Nonacademic/popular publications
(5) A certified copy of the highest diploma obtained by the candidate, or a certificate of the institution that delivered it
(6) Summary of research that the candidate has conducted (about 1500 words)
(7) Summary of research that the candidate intends to carry out at KUPRI (about 1500 words)
(8) 3 letters of reference

3. Selection procedure and feedback to candidates

A committee will be set up at KUPRI to evaluate all candidates, based on the documents submitted. There might be an interview by faculty members. The final decision will be made by all faculty members. Each candidate will be informed of the final decision pertaining to him/herself only.
