LOCATION: Millbrook, NY

DURATION: Full time.  Start date of 6/1/2011 and initial appointment is for one year. Continuation contingent upon performance and availability of funds.

DUTIES:

  • Develop new modules for the Changing Hudson curriculum for high school students.
  • Develop, promote and lead professional development programs for regional teachers and other educators, including
    • Changing Hudson Project workshops throughout the region, focusing on the Hudson ecosystem
    • Ecosystem Literacy Summer Institutes at the Cary Institute
    • Eco-Initiative workshops for Rhinebeck Schools
  • Visit schools as necessary to support teachers who are implementing new lessons and approaches learned in program workshops. 
  • Work with other members of the Changing Hudson Project team to evaluate and revise curriculum materials. 
  • Provide support and help teach Institute education programs as needed.
  • Contribute to research about ecology teaching and learning, helping collect and analyze data and write papers based on this work.
  • Manage budgets and help write grant proposals for education programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Course background (Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred) in ecology or related field. Ecology teaching experience with school children and the public. Experience developing science curriculum for high school students.  Ability to communicate with a wide range of the public. Excellent writing and organizational skills. Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
