Wildlife Trade Program Policy Analyst (DC)

Purpose: 

Under the direction of the Wildlife Trade Program Director, this position supports the worldwide implementation of strategic initiatives and campaign projects. The Program Analyst is responsible for working closely with the Wildlife Trade Program Director and international program and country office staff to ensure day-to-day international and regional coordination, planning, monitoring and reporting of program initiatives. The Program Policy Analyst supports discrete components of the global program as requested by the Wildlife Trade Program Director to meet objectives, and represents the Program to both internal and external audiences as necessary.

Responsibilities: 
  • In collaboration with the WTP Director and international team, work to develop and implement IFAW campaign strategies and projects.  As appropriate, assist in conveying program objectives and key messages to other departments, government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with international staff and team members to ensure implementation and quarterly reporting of international and regional or national program activities.
  • Coordinate the flow of information and maintain documentation for the relevant Program Strategic Team as requested by the Wildlife Trade Program Director.
  • Support wildlife trade program team leads to ensure they meet targets, budgets and deadlines, and conduct appropriate and comprehensive evaluation.
  • When requested by the Wildlife Trade Program Director, build IFAW contacts and liaise with external groups and stakeholders; deliver campaign messages in public activities, including meetings and conferences, with external stakeholders and contractors.
  • Work closely with Communications staff in the development and implementation of communications and public awareness activities in order to meet program objectives.
  • Coordinate closely with Online Campaigns and Marketing team and assist with the creation, ongoing maintenance and deployment of online content and communications in support of program goals and objectives.
  • Assist the Wildlife Trade Program Director in carrying out administrative projects such as program strategic development and other IFAW-wide initiatives which require programmatic participation. Liaise with all departments within IFAW HQ as required to support the Program Director.
  • Serve as the program’s initial point of contact and program expert for all inquiries from other IFAW departments. Work closely with Communications and the Department of Philanthropy to ensure factual content is available for the development of fundraising appeals, proposals and reports on programs, campaigns and projects for achieving fundraising and marketing objectives.
  • Conduct additional tasks as requested by the Wildlife Trade Program Director.
Requirements: 
  • BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Two or more years’ experience preferred in project management and/or formal/informal youth education or outreach campaigns.
  • Good understanding of international animal welfare/conservation and/or education issues, organizations and networks.
  • Superior writing skills, report writing, briefing documents, strategic analysis, blogs/social media posts, etc.
  • International experience preferred, particularly working in an international team environment.
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Highly effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and experience working on teams in a multi-task environment.
  • Ability to interact harmoniously, communicate effectively, and demonstrate diplomacy and sensitivity with people from varying educational, social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience and willingness to travel internationally.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages a plus.
  • Desk-top publishing skills a plus.
