spen Environmental Group is seeking a Biologist/Monitor with California Tiger Salamander experience to join our Northern California office (Sacramento). The work will involve conducting field surveys, handling animals, and relocating them out of harm’s way. The candidate must have demonstrated experience working with this species, have been approved (or qualified to be approved) by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to handle this species, and possess the required permits from the regulatory agencies.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience with California Tiger Salamander.
  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred).

Responsibilities May Include

  • Working as part of a team, conduct surveys and monitoring for California Tiger Salamanders and other sensitive biological resources.
  • Prepare field notes and technical reports.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary teams and monitor construction at various locations in Northern California.
  • Working effectively in both field and office environments.

Qualifications for Success

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Candidates must have a strong work ethic and be highly motivated.
  • Highly-developed organization skills with attention to both the big picture and attention to detail are a necessity to meet competing deadlines and demands.
  • Demonstrated experience with the biological resources of Northern California.
  • Experience with construction monitoring and compliance reporting, preferred.
  • Skills in MS Office, CRAM. ARC GIS and GPS data collection.
  • Ability to travel regionally as needed. In addition, as this position could involve field work to remote areas, the applicant must be able to travel to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.
