Water vole keeper - Conservation team

We are looking for a highly motivated person, who is practical and hardworking
to work primarily within our conservation yard to take care of the day to
day husbandry of Wildwood?s captive water vole population

This role will suit a fit person, who can work outdoors during all weathers
doing a physically demanding job. You need to be able to work independently
as well as part of the Keeper & Conservation team.

Daily food and water changes, including food preparation

Cleaning outdoor enclosures and indoor cages

Catching and handling animals, sexing and weighing

Separating litters after breeding

Marking animals by inserting PIT tags

You will be responsible for the welfare and well-being of your animals;
monitoring their health and behaviour, administering medication and improving
their enclosures to provide behavioural enrichment.

The post holder will be mature in outlook, confident, hardworking and practical.
Common sense and the ability to concentrate and prioritise on the essentials
of a task will be key elements of your personality. You will need to be
prepared to work through peak times in what is a seasonal business.

Essential skills:

A good level of competence of working with captive animals and their husbandry.

Experience of small mammal handling.

An understanding of conservation issues relating to water voles.

Desirable skills (you must have recent practical experience in at least
one):

Experience of animal care and captive breeding

Experience of conservation reintroduction projects

Experience of mammal trapping

Experience in giving public talks & demonstrations

Experience of health and safety systems

Familiarity with working in a zoological collection.
