BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual for the position of Vulture Conservation Officer whose overall job purpose is to support the development and implementation of strategies, projects and activities for conservation of species identified as priorities in the BirdLife Africa programme (Secretariat and Partnership), with the main focus on vultures and implementation of a project to secure the critically endangered Liben Lark.

The required qualifications and skills are:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience, MSc in conservation/natural resource management/related filed; knowledge of biodiversity conservation essential; ornithological knowledge and interest in raptors will be an advantage
  • Deep understanding of conservation issues in Africa, Good knowledge and interest in ornithology, ecology and applied biology
  • A proven track record of relevant work experience in biodiversity conservation, including planning, proposal writing, project development and management and networking.
  • High motivation, desire to achieve, ability to develop and implement species conservation projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with people with various levels of competence
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, and generate creative and pragmatic solutions.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Computer literacy in all standard Microsoft Office
  • Oral and written fluency in English, working knowledge of French would be an advantage
  • Willingness to travel at short notice when required
  • Experience in corporate fundraising, individual fundraising and events organising is a desired attribute.

The position will be based at the BirdLife Office in Nairobi, Kenya. Preference is therefore for residents of Kenya and those who have permission to work in Kenya.
