Wakefield Volunteer Officer

As a Volunteer Officer with the Conservation Volunteers in Wakefield you will receive training in project management of practical environmental conservation projects. As well as ongoing training while you lead / co-lead practical conservation groups to carry out a range of activities including woodland management, hedge laying, footpath construction and grassland management along with small construction projects within schools and community gardens e.g. food growing areas. You will be working with 16-18 yr olds on the new study program. This will include both practical conservation projects along with some classroom based work assisting the students to gain qualifications.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone contemplating a career in environmental education. You will receive in-house training delivered by experts in this field to develop your practical skills & knowledge essential for a career within this sector. As well as formal courses in Leadership, Midas, Risk Assessment, First Aid, Safeguarding etc. At Wakefield we work with a diverse range of volunteers, and to ensure we are responsive to our volunteer needs we include a package of inclusion training to all our Volunteer Officers. We have a keen interest supporting our Volunteer Officer’s individual development and progression into employment and will provide individual support with CV development.

Essential to this role are excellent communication / people skills, a strong commitment to environmental issues and a willingness to work with young people. A drivers license held for over 2 years is desirable though not essential. A commitment to a minimum of 3 days per week working for 6 months.
