Description

Community project in Coromandel, New Zealand, requires volunteer field assistants in various project activities.

The Kiwi bird (known locally in New Zealand as the Kiwi, not to be confused with the Kiwi fruit!), is an endangered national icon. Introduced predators such as rats, mice, and stoats attack and kill Kiwi chicks before they are old enough to defend themselves. The project has established a safe haven for the protection of Kiwi and other wildlife.

This is a locally administered project by the rural community of the Coromandel Peninsula. The project is run by experts in practical conservation ecology.

It ideally suits volunteers who have an interest in the outdoors and enjoy working on back-country trails and forests.

Travels costs and placement fees apply - see the INV website for details: www.nature.org.nz
