Voluntary River Steward

Looking for a chance to make a real difference to the waterways in Sheffield? We are looking for motivated and confident individuals wishing to gain valuable experience and training in the environmental conservation sector.

You will assist the River Steward team to deliver a variety of waterway maintenance tasks and habitat improvements on Sheffield’s waterways. It’s a great opportunity to gain experience in a range of habitat management techniques, working with commercial clients, other volunteers and communities, and to develop your contacts with organisations involved as partners in the RSC: Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Groundwork Sheffield and Sheffield City Council. We are looking for a 9 month 4 days per week commitment.

Essential: Interest in the ecology and habitat management requirements of river corridors; Practical and logical aptitude; Ability to come up with solutions to practical problems; Good interpersonal skills; Professional approach; Basic administrative skills including IT literacy; Flexibility, confidence and energy; Self-motivated; Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team.

Desirable: valid driving licence
