UK Bioenergy Campaigner

Biofuelwatch provides information, advocacy and campaigning in relation to the climate, environmental, human rights and public health impacts of large-scale industrial bioenergy. In the UK, we campaign against subsidies for burning biomass in power stations because of the negative effects of biomass electricity on forests and public health (i.e. air pollution) and because the carbon emissions from burning wood in power stations are no less than those from burning coal (for the same amount of electricity).  Biofuelwatch believes that energy policy must only support genuinely renewable, low carbon and sustianable forms of energy, such as sustainable wind and solar power, as well as energy conservation and efficiency.

The UK Bioenergy Campaigner will take a key role in delivering Biofuelwatch's UK campaigning, including our campaign to stop all subsidies for Drax power station in order to force the UK's biggest biomass and coal burning power plant to close down (our #AxeDrax campaign). 

S/he will help to build an effective outreach, information and advocacy campaign.  The UK Bioenergy Campaigner will be working as part of a small and supportive team, in which different team members work on a variety of issues and campaigns related to industrial bioenergy S/he will also work with a pool of volunteers, who contribute different levels of support, generally with specific tasks and events.
