Turtle Research Co-ordinator – Perhentian, Malaysia
 
Role

As the Turtle Research Coordinator, you will be responsible for the all turtle research at the project, including day to day training and collection of data – photo ID and turtle patrols. Working with the Team Leader and your colleagues you will develop a practical programme that introduces volunteers to key aspects of turtle conservation and education around the islands. You will be responsible along with your colleagues to implement an effective nightly turtle patrol and turtle photo ID research project. As part of a small team you are also expected to provide cover for your colleagues and as such should ensure you have a full understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Interns will be trained in sea turtle monitoring techniques by, and work under the supervision of, the Team Leader. As the project’s Research Intern, you will develop the work of Ecoteer around the islands with regards to sea turtles. You will be seen as the face of the Turtle Project and this should be considered at all times. When representing Ecoteer you should display a professional standard whilst remaining open and accessible to the community and other stakeholders in which we operate.

Description of ideal candidate
A passionate, friendly and social person who has experience of Turtle conservation or marine biology.  They would have a passion not just for the turtles but also for the environment and will want to make a difference to the local Perhentian Islands.   They would have experience in organising research and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.  They would have good command of spoken and written English and experience of living and working with western people.  They would be a happy, people person and someone that people can easily discuss issues with.  They would be confident snorkelling sessions and love living in Malaysia.
