Description

11/07/14 - 13/07/14

This introductory course will help you to identify the most common native broadleaved woodland trees and the main conifer found in commercial forestry plantations. The course is in summer so that the leaves of deciduos species can be used, but other identifying features will be discussed. Al long as the weather is reasonable, we will be predominantly outside and, given the location, some moderate hill walking will be involved. Whilst we are identifying trees, participants will also learn about the history of native woodlands and commercial forestry in the United Kingdom. Inevitably there will be a specific focus on the role of trees and woods in the cultural landscape of the Lake District National Park.
