Description

In order to get a better understanding of transients in HVDC transmission systems for offshore wind farms, both faults and switching events need to be considered on the DC and the AC sides of the system. Also needs to be included considerations about the influence of the converter and the components on both the sides (cables, transformers, the wind farm components etc.). In order to do this, high frequency component models are necessary.

When having a decent high frequent model, specific events are defined and imposed on the model at different places in the system to get a better insight into the effects of the various events on the generation and transmission of transients through the whole system.

In the project the system has to be established based on high frequency models of the components including the HVDC transmission system components. Both the AC grid and the wind farm model has to be created, with a level of detail as required for a thorough analysis of the events. Time domain simulations have to be conducted by means of suitable numerical tools, in order to investigate the transient behavior of the system. PSCAD should be used for this project.
