Under the auspices of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN), an international coalition of leading conservation groups, the Rainforest Alliance’s Sustainable Agriculture Division works with farmers to ensure compliance with the SAN standards for protecting wildlife, farm land, workers’ rights and local communities. Farms that meet these rigorous environmental, ethical and economic standards are awarded the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal.

The Sustainable Agriculture Division consists of the Sustainable Landscapes Program, the Sustainable Value Chains Program, the Sustainable Agriculture Auditing Services Program, the Traceability Unit and Program Administration. The work of the Sustainable Agriculture Division is closely linked to the work of the SAN Secretariat, housed in Rainforest Alliance’s Costa Rica office.

Position Summary: 

The Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Senior Manager in implementing the existing work plan for projects in South Asia with a particular focus on maintaining relations with key stakeholders and partners, coordinating producer training activities, preparing consulting agreements, providing feedback internally on program achievements and assisting in drafting fundraising proposals.

Responsibilties: 
  • Provide support to the Senior Manager in ensuring that technical consultants in India and Sri Lanka have the knowledge and tools to perform their activities;
  • Monitor and approve consultant deliverables, and provide support to the Senior Manager in compiling technical reports to donors; undertake a visit to India and/or Sri Lanka if required;
  • Provide support to the Senior Manager and the Director, Sustainable Landscapes on developing technical and fundraising proposals to build Rainforest Alliance’s program in South Asia;
  • Provide logistical support to the Senior Manager, Technical Coordinator and the Technical Capacity Manager on organizing internal and external training and consultation events in South Asia;
  • Monitor and support Rainforest Alliance’s training partners in South Asia in their  registration process on Rainforest Alliance’s online training platform;
  • Represent Rainforest Alliance at press events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings in the Netherlands, presenting Rainforest Alliance’s position and interests in discussions on key sustainability issues and also the public procurement discussions if required;
  • Attend donor meetings to provide progress reports; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management or related field required;
  • 5-7 years of prior work experience, a minimum of 3 years of experience in sustainable agriculture, with some first-hand knowledge, particularly in Africa and Asia;
  • Fluent written and spoken English required; knowledge of Dutch preferred;
  • Understanding of value chains and experience of working with companies;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate across different cultures and institutional levels, and strong writing ability;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to assess priorities and multi-task with strong attention to detail;
  • Administrative efficiency, with ability to track project progress and prepare timely reports;
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office and Internet); and
  • Ability and willingness to travel in South Asia for about two weeks.
Salary: 

Commensurate with experience.
