Southern Water are recruiting for two Technical Assistants to work with the Developer Services team in responding to customer applications and the delivery of live projects. Located in Otterborne, near Winchester.

The Job

As Technical Assistant, you will assist in the evaluation of all new designs produced by developers to ensure they comply with Sewers for Adoption and the Water industry Act, also ensuring that the design complies with standards currently used by or seen as acceptable to Southern Water.

You will use your analytic skills to monitor projects ensuring that any changes are approved appropriately as well as ensuring individual schemes are completed to meet business targets relating to cost, time, quality and regulatory criteria.

You will have regular liaison with the Southern Water supply chain both during design and construction to ensure the work is procured and delivered in accordance with Service Level Agreements. Additionally, you will be required to assist Southern Water at meetings with customers, developers and local planning authorities and other interest groups to ensure Southern Water’s position is maintained and supported.

The Key Skills and Experience required for this role are:

• Knowledge or prepared to learn the Water Industry Act 1991 including Sewers for Adoptions, Building regulations and CDM.
• Understanding of risk based asset planning processes
• Knowledge of construction techniques and materials
• Skills to operate in a demanding performance driven environment requiring a high degree of team working and directly leading a team to deliver stretching objectives.
• Good understanding business practices associated with the construction and adoption of assets and an understanding of regulatory operating regimes and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with water industry codes of practice and by the company standards for water, sewerage and wastewater and / or any agreed deviations from the specification and where necessary undertake site visits to assess.
• Good record keeping and management of databases.
• Performance and delivery based
• IT skills with the ability to use IT systems efficiently, is essential
• Proven ability to deliver against tight targets and timescales
• Effective communication skills to enable clear concise liaison across multiple interfaces
• Strong leadership and team-building skills in complex, dynamic environments is essential.
• Preferable educated to BTEC or equivalent in an engineering based subject
