Background

As the largest modern University in Scotland, University of West Scotland (UWS) is unique in its geographical coverage across the West of Scotland. UWS is a four campus University located in Ayr, Dumfries, Paisley and Hamilton. The Sustainable Behaviour Co-ordinator post will be based at Paisley campus with a remit covering all four campuses. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a desire to encourage pro-environmental behavioural change in UWS staff, students and the wider community.

The role

The UWS Sustainable Behaviour Co-ordinator will be responsible for the delivery of three key carbon saving projects, The Green Impact Programme, Watts On? Home Energy Programme and Halls of residence Reuse and Recycling project. The post is based in our Paisley campus and projects will cover the Ayr, Hamilton and Paisley campuses therefore occasional travel will be required.

Green Impact

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme that encourages pro-environmental behaviours by staff. It empowers sustainability champions within their workplace, helping them gain recognition for their environmental efforts, whilst playing on the competitive spirit of staff working in teams. It provides people and their departments with a tangible framework for improving their environmental performance, breaking down complex environmental issues into more manageable bite-sized chunks.

Watts On? Home Energy Saving Programme

Watts On? Home Energy Saving Programme targets reduction of energy use in halls of residence and private staff and student households. The programme will involve face to face advice on saving energy and money, developing and delivering a range of promotional activity though social media, roadshows, events and wider behaviour change campaigns.

Halls of residence Reuse and Recycling

This project will provide the behaviour change support which will be necessary to increase recycling rates. We will also encourage reuse and waste minimisation through a variety of engagement strategies and activities such as organising swap shops, reuse and upcycling and craft workshops. This project will develop strong partnership with Zero waste Scotland and work closely with relevant staff within the University.

Objective

This 7 month, full time post will be responsible for the delivery of three key carbon saving projects: The Green Impact Programme, Watts On? Home Energy Programme, and Halls of residence Reuse and Recycling project

Benefits of this opportunity

The successful graduate will have opportunities to learn about key environmental programmes, be a team player, develop communication skills in different mediums and gain significant project management skills including event planning and delivery, monitoring and evaluation, management of staff (two part time project interns), and project development and implementation.
