Head of Technology Acceleration

Purpose and scope of the role:

Help develop the Carbon Trust offshore renewable strategy and scope new initiatives in relation to offshore renewables.

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Lead problem solving effort on assigned projects
  • Manage discrete projects includingdeveloping scopes of work, , co-ordinating pilots and managing and working alongside contractors and/or internal teams
  • Ensure effective coordination, communication and dissemination of project plans and project end products
  • Deliver and support internal improvement projects
  • Develop and deliver policy and market insights for internal use and external audiences
  • Inform and influence Government policy on low carbon issues
  • Feed into business development in terms of ideas generation and evaluation
  • Be an active member of Innovation team, engaging in problem solving/supporting projects across the company

Key Performance Indicators:

Overall

  • Provide a clear strategic direction and problem solving support to the Carbon Trust and its offshore renewable programmes
  • Develop and deliver pilot programmes and "deep dives" into investigate the challenges of offshore renewables. Provide support to other functional areas in a timely and high quality manner
  • Carbon saved and carbon cost effectiveness of the products delivered by the "Delivery" Programme (including customer service)
  • Familiarity and favourability of the Carbon Trust

Specifically

  • Delivery of agreed projects to time, budget and quality
  • Impact achieved (e.g. did project develop significant new thinking/ engage and influence stakeholders/deliver bottom line carbon savings)

Key skills:

  • Strong strategic problem solving skills (comfortable with complex analysis)
  • Familiarity with the technical and commercial barriers to the deployment of offshore renewables
  • Strong project/process management skills
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex team environment
  • Ability to work on standalone basis 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Project management experience, including exposure to senior management, at either strategic management consultancy or in a corporate strategy/line management role at a blue chip corporate
  • Experience in offshore renewables through consulting or direct industry involvement.
  • Degree educated (at least 2:1 or equivalent) in a science/engineering discipline
  • Post graduate business or science /engineering qualification desired
