Description

From its origins as a small group of committed wildlife enthusiasts, WWF has grown into one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations – supported by 5 million people and active in over 100 countries on five continents.

The Siphandone, Stung Treng, Kratie (SSK) is an area that stretches along the Mekong River from Kratie province into Lao PDR with exceptionally rich biodiversity and natural resources. WWF-Cambodia is looking for a qualified Senior Research Officer who will responsible to plan, implement, and coordinate scientific research on species and ecosystems and the work will focus on the Mekong River basin from Kratie to the Lao border and on the major tributaries – the Sekong, Sesan, and Srepok Rivers in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces. The Senior Research Officer will also responsible to coordinate WWF research activities with the Cambodian government, other NGOs, and independent researchers working in the program area and to Implement monitoring system of SSK Research Program - filling APMS, species monitoring trackers. The full-time position is to be based in Kratie Province, Cambodia.

   

What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • At least a Bachelor Degree in a field related to ecology, biodiversity conservation or natural resource conservation and management.  But a Master Degree is preferable
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in conservation science, scientific research and/or biological monitoring, preferably in Cambodia or Greater Mekong Region.
  • Proven experience and ability to apply conservation, land use and NRM planning skills in the field and with government agencies and local communities.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience on Climate Change adaptation and resilience projects.
  • Familiarity with design, implementation, and analysis of wildlife survey and monitoring methods, including Distance Sampling, Occupancy, Capture-Mark-Recapture
  • Technical report and proposal writing skills and Good wildlife photography skills
  • Data management and analysis; proficiency in use of relevant analytic software such as:
  • R, Program MARK, Distance, SECR, Presence, Arc GIS, etc. would be highly regarded.
  • Proficiency with general mapping, GPS use, and collection of mapping data in the field.
  • Very good skills in use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, and database management.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Khmer, including scientific and technical terminology.
  • Strong commitment to build capacity in national and provincial staff.
