The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a global non-profit environmental organization with more than 1.3 million members and online activists.  We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Beijing, China.  Our staff of over 400 includes lawyers, scientists, economists, and policy experts who work to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.
 
Position Summary:
NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Communications team -- specifically on media relations, advertising, public opinion research, strategic partnerships, and Latino outreach -- in our San Francisco office.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Tracking NRDC advertising campaigns and budgets; maintaining ad campaign library; proofreading and writing ad copy;
  • Coordinating production of NRDC’s monthly California newsletter; drafting newsletter copy and shepherding the document from draft to final product;
  • Drafting content for social media outreach including Facebook ads, tips for green living, blogs, newsletters, and action alerts;
  • Building and maintaining press lists for NRDC issue areas; conducting press outreach and fielding media inquiries; drafting press releases and advisories; planning press events; tracking media clips as assigned
  • Maintaining paper and electronic filing systems and databases and managing email lists;
  • Making travel arrangements, including transportation, hotel accommodations, vehicle rentals and conference registration;
  • Processing invoices and staff expense reimbursements;
  • Scheduling and organizing meetings for project staff and coalition partners;
  • Organizing and participating in projects via conference calls, webinars and events;
  • Coordinating detailed production schedules for campaigns, fundraisers and various film projects as assigned;
  • Acting as scheduler and liaison for Director of Special Projects, and Director of Latino Outreach;
  • Assisting the receptionist and other program assistants in the SF office as needed; and
  • Performing other projects as assigned.


Job Requirements

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree desired and at least 2 years of experience in an administrative position;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with people of varying backgrounds;
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks, follow institutional procedures, and perform undirected work with attention to detail;
  • Superior proofreading skills;
  • Superior copywriting skills;
  • Ability to work accurately with multiple priorities and under deadline pressure;
  • Strong facility with spreadsheets, databases, social media, web applications and electronic communication;
  • Experience in or willingness to learn advertising & technology requirements and market research skills;
  • Willingness to be available for occasional overtime work;
  • Proficiency in writing and speaking Spanish a plus; and
  • Interest in advocacy issues and/or the business perspective of environmental policy a plus.
