Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior / principal ecologist with particular expertise in project management, to join a leading ecological consultancy in their London office.   You will have the opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of high quality ecological services for major projects within London and the South East, whilst ensuring the continued professional development of junior team members.  If you have extensive experience in an ecological consultancy environment and have a proven track record of successful staff management and project management of large and complex projects, then we’d like to hear from you.

Responsibilities of the post:

As a senior/principal ecologist you will;

  • Project manage a busy and varied workload whilst supervising staff;
  • Carry out protected species surveys and assessments, Phase 1 habitat surveys and ecological Clerk of Works and Watching Brief roles on construction contracts;
  • Submit European Protected Species Mitigation (EPSM) licences;
  • Make contributions to the Continual Professional Development of team members and take the lead in internal and external training events and workshops;
  • Work to developed excellent relationships with clients, representing the company at client and design team meetings.

Qualifications / Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An appropriate degree(s);
  • Full IEEM Membership;
  • Extensive relevant work experience covering Phase 1 and habitat surveys, EIA and HRA, as well as BREEAM and CfSH;
  • A substantial track record of report writing and provision of critical review of own and others work including; Phase 1 survey reports, protected species survey reports and ES chapters;
  • Previous experience of managing a team where project work has included protected species surveys and assessments;
  • Full clean driving licence;
  • Competency in the survey of one or more key protected species: great crested newts, badgers, bats, reptiles, dormice, water voles, birds, including at least one EPS licence;
  • Experience of writing EPSM licences and to have been the lead ecologist on at least one licence;
  • Experience of producing ecology chapters as part of EcIA;
  • Experience of liaising with statutory bodies, planning authorities and NGOs.

Certain project work will require travel, overnight stays and in some cases longer periods of working away from home. This is an exciting time to join an Ecological Consultancy with a reputation for delivering objective, high quality work to clients in the private, public and voluntary sectors.
