KBS invites applications for a senior faculty position in terrestrial ecology (Associate or Full Professor) to help lead the KBS Long-term Ecological Research (LTER) program. The KBS LTER is focused on understanding interactions among plants, microbes, insects, and the environment in agricultural landscapes. We seek an ecologist with broad interests in questions relevant to managed or natural portions of agricultural landscapes and with leadership experience in collaborative research projects. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to transition to principal investigator (lead-PI) on future LTER renewal proposals to NSF, and is expected to maintain an externally funded research program, to teach a course in their area of specialization on campus, and to contribute to the education and outreach missions of KBS. The position is based at KBS and includes a joint appointment in a campus-based department in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) or the College of Natural Science (CNS).KBS (www.kbs.msu.edu) is MSU’s premier biological research station located ~65 miles from the main campus and is jointly administered by MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and College of Natural Science. KBS is year-round home to 11 faculty and their graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, whose interests range from biogeochemistry to community ecology to evolution. The KBS LTER program (www.lter.kbs.msu.edu) was established in 1988 and involves over 60 researchers from 5 different colleges at MSU, and over 35 researchers from other universities. In addition to the LTER, KBS also hosts field experiments for the DOE-funded Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) on the sustainability of biofuels, an experimental pond facility, a pasture-based dairy research center, substantial laboratory, greenhouse, and growth chamber facilities, and abundant acreage of natural and managed aquatic and terrestrial habitats.Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their interest in the position, leadership experience, a curriculum vitae including contact information for three references, and a summary of research accomplishments and future research objectives.  Applications should be compiled as a single pdf file submitted on line at https://jobs.msu.edu (position # 4282). Review of applications will begin December 1, 2016, and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Questions regarding this position may be directed to Dr. Gary Mittelbach, Search Committee Chair (mittelbach@kbs.msu.edu).
