Purpose

Responsible for the administration and management of Leadership Giving’s (LG) Prospect and Donor Research Strategy in the UK. Responsible for researching donors and prospects, analysing data about prospect capacity & inclination, creating donor information and files, and identifying priority contacts for the gift officers so that LG can achieve its overall income goals. Provide leads of prospects to gift officers. Prepare profiles for visits, events, & solicitations.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Assist the Leadership Giving team in creating and implementing a comprehensive strategy to successfully identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major donors and institutional prospects through in-depth research analysis.
  • Analyse, interpret, and summarise complex financial disclosure documents for wealth assessment purposes.
  • Perform general wealth estimations based on factors such as salary surveys and general demographic assessments and electronic screening and out-sourced reports, including Wealth Engine and Lexis Nexis.
  • Maintain capacity & inclination ratings for prospects in the in-house database (Team Approach) based on research.
  • Evaluate, qualify and rate prospects based on prospect meetings, donor screenings, external research companies and in-depth research on prospects.
  • Analyse the cost/benefits of screening services & out-sourced reports, negotiate services with vendors, and integrate the prospect giving capacity and inclination ratings produced by these services into Team Approach (in-house database)
  • Respond to research requests from Leadership Giving Officer (LGO’s) and proactively conduct research to move donors from the LG prospect pool into the LGO’s portfolios and to bring new donors into the prospect pool.
  • Develop detailed research profiles, briefings, and gift histories for fundraising staff, with a view to assessing donor interest and viability and preparing for donor contacts.
  • Maintain comprehensive paper and electronic files on prospects and donors; establish policies and procedures regarding access to and confidentiality of research records.
  • Manage research resources library, including reference materials, online services, subscriptions, and prospect research files. Continually update resources with the most current technologies and techniques.
  • Act as key Donor Advancement and Stewardship liaison to the Leadership Giving department for prospect research and donor ratings and screenings.
  • Participate in prospect strategy meetings to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies. Collaborate with the Head of Leadership Giving on strategies for effective management of portfolios for all LGO’s, and provide the necessary tools such as evaluation grids to assist LGO’s with "moves management," and progress reports on high priority contacts, among others.
  • Manage special projects as directed.

Job Requirements

  • Degree level or equivalent.
  • Substantial experience in prospect research and fundraising or equivalent with a demonstrated success in providing superior service to a fundraising team resulting in financial results.
  • Demonstrated understanding of major gifts, prospect research, and prospect management, particularly the role information plays in prospect development through the cultivation cycle.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to complete a large volume of work assignments with competing requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; excellent writing, editing, interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to locate and interpret financial and biographical information from a variety of sources.
  • Strong computer skills, including database systems, on-line research, desktop application, and experience in Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of online subscription databases such as Lexis-Nexis, iwave, WealthID and others.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
