Description

Our client is a successful multidisciplinary environmental consultancy with offices across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Ornithologist to join their Ecology / Ornithology team in Glasgow.

You will have the opportunity to assist in a wide variety of terrestrial ornithology projects across a number of sectors spanning onshore wind, property and energy transmission. We are particularly keen to hear from ornithologists with experience of
successfully delivering both renewable projects and EcIA reports. The successful candidate will not only demonstrate a high level of technical skill in relation to avian ecology, but also as project manager, oversee budgets and delegate staff resources as required.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

You will perform the role of Senior Ornithologist for a variety of ecological/ornithological studies and your responsibilities will include: 

  • Undertake scoping and project management for a range of medium and large-scale projects
  • Provide ornithological input and advice for all types of projects, including the preparation of
    Environmental Statement (ES) chapters, Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Habitat Management and Restoration Programmes
  • Project management, including preparation of technical reports, fee proposals and tenders for a range of
    medium and large-scale projects
  • Plan and undertake specialist fieldwork, including habitat, protected species and ornithological surveys
  • Review of reports and mentoring of more junior team members
  • Liaison with clients/stakeholders/ contractors and promotion of business to prospective clients/ partners

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree educated or similar qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Ornithology)
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (CIEEM)
  • Proven project management experience including scoping, estimating and tendering for new work
  • Sound appreciation of the EcIA reporting process and relevant legislation and guidance
  • Experience in dealing with the interface between ornithology/ ecology and development planning, with ability to negotiate with third parties, planning authorities and statutory agencies
