Job title: Senior Ornithologist

Job Summary:

 

My client is looking to appoint an experienced ornithologist into their growing marine consultancy business.  Based in the Cambridge or London Offices you will play a key role in the provision of advice on coastal avian and ecological issues.  You will have the opportunity to get involved in UK and international project working including marine planning and consenting for offshore renewables and other marine and coastal developments.

 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

 

The Senior Ornithologist’s brief will include:

  • Providing specialist technical input including data analysis and report writing.
  • Completing technical studies for Screening, Scoping and EIA and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA)
  • Researching and summarising relevant published and unpublished ornithological/ environmental/ ecological data
  • Managing and interpreting the findings of surveys, analyses and research to inform impact assessment and planning
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure EIA and HRA requirements are understood and defined
  • Monitoring relevant literature to keep abreast of advances in understanding of relevant consenting matters
  • Contributing to marketing and business development

 

Qualifications / Experience:

 

The Senior Ornithologist will have;

  • Degree in a relevant ecological or biological science
  • MSc Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience of planning, EIA or environmental management in the marine or coastal environment sector.
  • Experience of project management, coordination, and quality assurance of technical reporting of technical staff, together with specialist sub-contractors, including surveyors.
  • Knowledge of appropriate techniques for ornithological/marine and coastal ecological surveys (such as boatbased and aerial surveys; intertidal; saltmarsh and shingle/dune habitat surveys).
  • Experience of management of undertaking survey programmes an advantage.
  • A track record of undertaking ornithological/ecological statistical analysis and;
  • Good knowledge of Coastal ecology, particularly intertidal; saltmarsh and shingle/dune habitats.
