PURPOSE OF JOB Cefas has an immediate need for a scientific specialist with a marine environmental consultancy background to lead the development and delivery of commercial contracts. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Cefas has an extensive international network and is involved in a number of collaborative marine environmental projects within the EU but also overseas. We have recently won a significant amount of work in the commercial sector assessing the impacts of human activities on marine mammals, fish and other biota. Areas of work include impact assessments of large scale marine infrastructure projects and advice to industry on the environmentally friendly design of facilities such as offshore wind turbines in the planning stage. We are also engaged in assessing the effects of underwater noise on marine life. Clients are located both within and outside the UK. The steady growth of this work area requires an expansion of our team and we now seek an individual with senior marine environmental consultancy experience to carry your career to the next level. You will be responsible for planning of projects, designing data collection and analysis, and especially writing and supervising of reports as well as the presentation of results and communication with clients. We would also expect you to seek new opportunities for developing new business opportunities, as they arise, liaise with existing and potential new clients, and to publish the results of your work when appropriate in peer reviewed journals. We would expect you to lead on business opportunities as they arise, and at the higher level seek new opportunities and develop business with existing and potential new clients. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS Academic qualifications required for direct entry to this Cefas Pay Band 6 post are a minimum of a degree and substantial relevant work experience. Academic qualifications required for direct entry to this Cefas Pay Band 7 post are a minimum of a higher degree and substantial relevant work experience. This requirement can be waived for internal candidates who are able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and experience. It is essential that candidates meet the following criteria: Proven experience in marine environmental impact assessment Commercial consultancy experience Very good communication skills (written and oral) Proven track record of EIA report writing and scientific papers It is preferable that candidates meet the following criteria: Experience in writing proposals and tenders Marine mammal / fish experience Experience in sensitivity analysis, impact models, risk assessment and cumulative assessments ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This post will be in either Cefas Pay Band 6 or Cefas Pay Band 7. The salary range for Pay Band 6 is from £30,403 to £37,727 pa. The salary range for Pay Band 7 is from £40,831 to £50,882 pa. In addition there is the opportunity for all staff to earn a performance related bonus. The salary is paid monthly by credit transfer. Other rules will apply if you are serving a fixed term appointment. Part-time working and job share applicants are also welcome.
