We are seeking an Senior Geologist to join our E&P UK Developing Assets team in central London.  

The recent UK 27th licence round awards saw us re-affirm our position as one of the leading and most active exploration companies in the West of Shetland area on the UKCS.  This resulted in six new operated exploration licences being awarded together with an additional non-operated licence.  We are the largest acreage holder in the region, currently operating nine exploration licences as well as being partners in an additional eight licences.  Recent activities have seen us drill two operated deep water exploration wells in the West of Shetlands

Further successes in the West of Shetland area include our involvement in the Laggan & Tormore field development which will see first gas production in 2014.  Other developments rapidly approaching sanction include Rosebank and Edradour, whilst further discoveries being matured include Tornado, Cambo and the operated Glenlivet discovery.  

Areas of responsibility 

As  a Senior Geologist, you will have significant opportunities to use all your skills and experience on a variety of projects to help us reach our business objectives, and contribute to the company’s growing reputation as a quality operator and an effective partner.  You will work with a multi-disciplinary team comprising Geophysicists, Geologists and Reservoir Engineers who are focused on delivering technical excellence.  

Furthermore, your key duties will include:

  • managing the geological focus and direction within the subsurface area of the UK Developing Assets team and you will provide independent, high quality geological support for both operated and non-operated developments within the UK Business Unit
  • develop and implement appropriate strategies to optimise static reservoir modelling for prospective, development and producing WOS fields and you will build independent static reservoir models and qualitative/quantitative analysis of our existing suite of internal and partner static models
  • managing and delivering agreed technical work-programs in a timely manner and to the standard required for internal quality assurance purposes, to positively support the wider project schedule
  • defining appropriate model conversion parameters to maximise dynamic simulation efficiency
  • influencing field operators by drawing on the conclusions of your independent technical work and analysis
  • mentoring and developing junior geoscientists and you will contribute to our geology network and you will be expected to provide support to the network in the form of technical advice and peer assistance
  • reservoir parameters sensitivity and uncertainty analysis
  • performing risk analysis that will influence the robustness of the project
  • planning new wells as part of an integrated team
  • define appropriate acquisition parameters for new core/logging programmes

Your profile 

It is essential that you will have a bachelor degree or equivalent in Geoscience and you will be an expert in building and evaluating static reservoir models. 

It is essential that you will have considerable experience of varied geoscience in a number of basins with at least one major operator and you must be comfortable building detailed low-mid-high case static reservoir geomodels.  You will have solid experience working within service, consultancy or operated asset sectors.  Furthermore, you will have prior West of Shetlands experience and experience in a variety of depositional environments.  Experience in a turbidite environment is desirable.  In addition, you will have experience quantifying static uncertainty ranges and sensitivities for reservoir parameters coupled with experience of static volume analysis with volume ranges.  Well planning and data acquisition experience coupled with well site experience is desirable.

It is essential that you are enthusiastic about your work and are driven to your use technical expertise to achieve results. You will be comfortable within a multi-disciplinary team working environment and you will have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.  Furthermore, you will be motivated by sharing knowledge and experience to develop your colleagues.  In addition, you will have excellent QC skills.  Prior experience in using Petrel would be advantageous.

You will have a willingness to travel occasionally to our other sites and partner sites within Northwest Europe.
