Introduction

Our client currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Consultant/Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Land Planning Environmental Management and Ecology team.

The Job

The role is to deliver Construction Environmental management services for a range of infrastructure and development projects and contribute to the development of the offer to promote environmental improvements, embed sustainable practices and identify opportunities for the business, clients, staff and/or industry.
Our client are looking for experienced candidates who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and team orientated.

The role will require technical environmental assessment and legislative knowledge, excellent team working and communication skills and the ability to manage deadlines. Some UK travel and periods of site based working is likely.

The role will involve undertaking the following tasks:

  • Produce and implement Environmental Management Plans in accordance with ISO14001;
  • Work within site teams to deliver environmental contractual requirements;
  • Undertake site inspections and audits;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of waste legislation and managing and implementing Site Waste Management Plans;
  • Manage specialist sub contractors to deliver site monitoring requirements;
  • Manage the Section 61 process;

  • Apply for licenses, consents or permits where required;

  • To assist in the delivery of project documents to the highest standard in accordance with project timescales;
  • Management of pre-construction, construction and post construction surveys;

  • To interact with the team and Project Managers/Project Directors to ensure the smooth running of projects;

  • To research best practice innovative solutions;

  • To keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation/policy/guidance; and,
  • To assist with the preparation of business proposals and in building our client portfolio.

Essential Experience/Skills:

  • Candidates should hold an appropriate BSc and experience in an EIA or Environmental - Management or related discipline
  • Previous site experience (particularly with Crossrail or Network Rail and National Grid) is desirable, and basic experience of EIA and other impact assessment techniques and familiarity with CEEQUAL would be advantageous.
  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment would also be beneficial.
  • Working toward Associate Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) or an equivalent professional organisation.
  • Full driving licence

Have good communication and inter-personal skills, supporting the ability to influence behaviour whilst encouraging a good relationship with the client and gain the trust of the project team and stakeholders in order to manage often conflicting priorities.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of environmental aspects and risks and particularly sustainability principles
  • Have sound awareness of environmental legislation and how to assess compliance
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret report data and information
  • Have a sound understanding of the construction process
  • Be confident in making balanced judgements – between the needs of our direct client and the ultimate client that the team are all collectively working for.
  • Be commercially astute, understanding the differing financial priorities of the people involved in the project.
  • Have the ability to work on their own the- role is often difficult, being isolated in a client or contractor team, sometimes with little support.
