Description
The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is seeking an engineer to assist the project manager in providing technical direction and operational supervision for a group of engineers and analysts who help facilitate the implementation of utility energy conservation programs. This is a regular, full-time, mid-level position providing an excellent opportunity to work with a dedicated and professional staff on state and national projects. The position will be based at NCAT's headquarters in Butte, Montana. NCAT is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities.
QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalency of a MA/MS in an appropriate field such as mechanical electrical, or environmental engineering,; architecture; building science; construction or business management or a related field plus three - five years of related experience or training (or) a BS degree in an appropriate field plus five - seven years of related experience or training. Experience in sustainable building technology, resource efficient building technologies, project planning, development and implementation and team building is required. Experience supervising the day to day activities of technical professionals, project management and technical supervisory experience is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: The successful candidate will have an extensive understanding of energy efficient building practices, familiarity with the energy needs of private and public housing authorities, a full range of technical researching expertise, extensive computer literacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to manage a team, a high level of initiative and dependability, ability to prioritize work assignments, to complete tasks in a timely manner, to maintain information of a confidential nature, ability to work under stress. Travel is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversees project management and supervises project staff under the direction of the project manager.
• Provides technical and project administration guidance.
• Perform energy analysis with energy performance software.
• Provide technical assistance in person and over the telephone to developers, building design professionals, and property managers on energy efficient building practices.
• Researches technical information on energy efficient building practices. Prepares written reports, publications, bibliographies, correspondence and other information materials for dissemination to a wide variety of audiences of varying degrees of technical knowledge. Assists in the review and editing of information pieces developed by other staff.
• Communicates with a variety of contacts to include architect and engineers, government agencies, foundations and utilities. Represents the project(s) to various sponsors, cooperating agencies and the general public.
• Participates on a variety of energy efficiency projects and works closely with other specialists in gathering and disseminating useful information to a variety of clientele with varying degrees of technical expertise.
• Assists in organizing and focusing efforts to stimulate the market for energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Cultivates and establishes on-going working relationships with individuals and organizations.
• Attends conferences, workshops, seminars and related meetings in support of the program. Liaisons with individuals and organizations involved in the sustainable energy arena.
• Assists in identifying potential new projects and funding sources and related project development activities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $38,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include paid vacation and holidays, health, life and disability insurance, a cafeteria and 401(k) plan and a pleasant, professional office environment.
