Job Summary:

A global leader in the infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to play a central role in furthering their work and reputation in environmental services.

In this position you will take part in leading the ecological and biodiversity aspect of development projects. Working in an integrated team of environmental professionals you will provide advice to clients and team members and have the opportunity to get involved with environmental and planning related reports, including EIA’s for major infrastructure projects in the energy and water sectors.

You will be providing the highest quality of work to deliver effective solutions whilst ensuring client satisfaction.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The successful senior ecologist will:

  • Be responsible for management, client liaison, undertaking field surveys, reporting (Phase 1 habitats, protected species, EcIA and EIA chapters, EPS licence applications etc.), and managing projects to budget and deadlines.
  • Be responsible for ecological subcontractors, approving of work scopes, technical review and ensuring quality of inputs to project teams.
  • Engage in direct contact with clients as well as building and maintaining effective relationships.

Qualifications / Experience:

The successful Senior Ecologist will have:

  • Relevant degree qualification and postgraduate qualification
  • Associate or Full member of CIEEM (Fellow)
  • Chartered Environmentalist (Chartered Ecologist)
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • A wide understanding of the planning and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience at managing and mentoring more junior staff
  • Commitment to personal and continuing professional development
  • Capable of undertaking environmental tasks and organising yourself with minimal supervision
  • Managing ecological inputs and deliverables to projects
  • A good commercial awareness and experience of liaising with clients, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders
  • Full current UK driving license
  • Public inquiry experience would be desirable
  • Technical proposal writing in support of the wider team.
