Job title: Senior Ecologist

 

Location: Essex

Job Summary:

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit and successful team of ecological and arboricultural consultants working with a wide range of clients including local authorities, large landowners and the construction industry.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years consultancy experience and a track record of undertaking licence applications and mitigation implementation for at least one protected species. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Senior Ecologist will;

  • Take the lead on projects when their specialist species groups is a consideration;
  • Manage staff and sub-contractors working on their projects;
  • Help with the training and development of other staff;
  • Understand client requirements and deliver projects on time and on/under budget to a high standard;
  • Produce tenders and fee proposals;
  • Produce high quality technical reports in accordance with best practice guidelines;
  • Carry out Extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys and a range of other protected species surveys to a high standard;
  • Have a driving licence and use of a car / van; and
  • Work with the Principal Ecological Consultant to grow and develop the business.

 

Qualifications / Experience:

 

The Senior Ecologist will have;

  • Full CIEEM status;
  • Protected species survey licence for one or more groups;
  • Experience of preparing EPS mitigation licence and/or development licences;
  • Demonstrable consultancy experience (min 4 years); and
  • Excellent working knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning system.
  • A full driving licence.

 

Additional desirable experience includes;

  • A track record of preparing and applying for development licences in your own name;
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:-

-       bat activity surveys and emergence / re-entry surveys;

-       great crested newt surveys and mitigation design;

-       Botanical surveys, including National Vegetation Community type surveys;

-       breeding and winter bird surveys;

-       dormouse surveys;

-       badger surveys, including the preparation and submission of development licences.
